OUR SEEDS OF HOPE GROUP

Seeds of Hope began several years ago with members of our former Christian Base Community and Peace and Justice Initiative.  The group is one of the smallest, yet busiest, in our church.  Its mission is to work in and through our church to foster awareness, communication, educational opportunities and action regarding our role as compassionate Christians living in a small, small world and taking seriously Jesus’ statement, Whatever you do to even the least of your brothers and sisters, you do it to me.  They sponsor many programs.  Currently, they’re sponsoring a series on Wednesdays in Lent entitled, Seeds of Hope and Change: Positive Responses to Local and Global Hunger, featuring Dr. Heidi Hadsell, President of Hartford Seminary, and Elizabeth Horton Sheff, plaintiff in the landmark Sheff vs. O’Neill Civil Rights case.  Seeds of Hope is also sponsoring next week’s dramatic reading of The Laramie Project, which examines Laramie, Wyoming in response to the brutal slaying of a gay college student, Matthew Shepard.  In April, they will sponsor a study group on the recent movie, The Fog of War.  In past years, the group has offered programs on racism and bigotry, capital punishment, What About Gay Marriage?, the School of the Americas, What’s Next in Iraq, and Understanding Islam, as well as a day of conflict resolution workshops for both children and families.  Movie discussions have been offered on Bowling for Columbine, Cry Freedom and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, as well as a 4-week forum on Living With Religious and Cultural Diversity.  Join Seeds of Hope and make a BIG difference!
