OUR QUILT FESTIVAL and OUR QUILT GROUP
The art of quilting has a rich history in our church. In the early 1980’s, quilting was very popular and our church hosted 3 Quilt Festivals, coordinated by that day’s equivalent to our First Church Women group. This coming weekend, we will revive our Quilt Festivals to provide people with an opportunity to showcase their quilting talents so that others may enjoy them. Displayed throughout our church will be a beautiful array of quilts and quilt-related items, such as antique quilts, family heirlooms, appliqué quilts and more. Our Quilt Festival will feature a very special program in our Chapel on Saturday morning by Esther Williams: Slave Quilts. There will also be a boutique, a luncheon and framed artwork around our church as well. Please join us for this very exciting event!
Quilts for Children in Need is a small group of quilters in our church (novice to experienced) , who enjoy fellowship with one another while making quilts for babies and children in need. We have donated quilts to such worthy organizations as Ronald McDonald House, The Hole-in-the-Wall Camp, Prudence Crandall Center, Southington Social Services, the neo-natal units of Yale-New Haven Hospital and MidState Medical Center and even Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. All are welcome to join this wonderful group. We meet every other Wednesday, 10:00AM to 12:00N.
And be sure to check out our 275 th Anniversary Quilt, which hangs in the Narthex. It was put together by Cindy Parsons from quilt squares made by many church members. It represents many of our ministries, programs and missions in 2001, when we celebrated our 275 th anniversary.
