Who Are We?
We are friends, family, strangers, visitors, and neighbors brought together by the Spirit of God to joyfully worship and enjoy Christian fellowship together. Our faith is based on our individual understanding of the Word as revealed through Jesus Christ and found in the Bible. Our faith is nurtured by sharing with each other our understanding of the Word. We are dedicated to letting God's love and grace work through us.
The First Congregational Church of Southington is a member of The United Church Of Christ, however, it is independent in all matters. This church is owned by the congregation and responsible only to its members. No one else may tell us what to believe or do. The congregation, through its elected boards and committees as well as its Annual Meeting, is entirely responsible for running all aspects of its church life including the hiring of ministers to help guide and direct its spiritual life. As in all democracies the success of the church is dependent on the active participation of its members.
The covenant membership of the First Congregational Church of Southington, Connecticut is open to all baptized Christians who shall affirm the covenant of this church and receive the right hand of fellowship at a service celebrating the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. In the case of extraordinary circumstances, such as illness or infirmity, membership may be granted at the discretion of the Board of Deacons.
Invitation to receive the right hand of fellowship shall be made on the recommendation of the Board of Deacons. Such recommendation shall be made for those persons who, having been baptized in this or some other Christian church, confess their faith in Jesus Christ and their purpose to live Christian lives; present letters of transfer from other Christian churches; where a letter of transfer cannot be obtained, by reaffirmation of faith.
