Dr. Ferdinand Q. Blanchard (1901-1904)

Our thirteenth pastor, Dr. Ferdinand Q. Blanchard, was born in Jersey City, N.J., on July 23, 1876. He was graduated from Amherst in 1898 and continued his studies at Yale Divinity School, from which he graduated at the age of 25.

He was called to this church in March, 1901, and installed the following May.

The Rev. Mr. Blanchard had a very successful ministry and was liked by young and old.

Shortly after coming here, he married Miss Ethel West in Boston, and they went to live in the house on the corner of Berlin and Vermont Avenues.

Mr. Blanchard remained here three years and then accepted a call to a church in East Orange, N.J.

In 1915 he became pastor of the Euclid Avenue Congregational Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where his twenty fifth anniversary was celebrated in February, 1940, when 500 church people attended a dinner in his honor. It was said that Dr. Blanchard was one of the foremost leaders, not only in the religious life of the city, but in the civic life as well.

Dr. and Mrs. Blanchard had two children.
