"Building houses in partnership with God's people in need"
What is Habitat for Humanity?
Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical housing ministry that works in partnership with people in need to build simple, decent houses.
- Habitat homeowners purchase their houses from Habitat through no-profit, no-interest mortgages.
- Habitat homeowners contribute "sweat equity" labor working on their house and the houses of others.
- Mortgage payments are placed in a revolving fund to finance the construction of more houses.
- Habitat is not a giveaway program.
What’s Our Involvement?
The First Congregational Church of Southington has been involved with Habitat for Humanity building projects for many years. We are currently working with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity. We, as a congregation, have committed to providing volunteers on the third Saturday of every month. Mark your calendars for 2006 and SIGN UP!
What has Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity Accomplished?
Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity (HAHFH) is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and was established in 1989. Since then, thousands of volunteers have helped build homes for over 115 families. Most of these homes are in Hartford, with others in Manchester, Farmington, Rockville, Bloomfield, Windsor and East Hartford.
Why Should I Get Involved?
Because our neighbors need our help. Habitat for Humanity is a no cost, low commitment and fun mission opportunity that is readily available to everyone. It is a great way to give back to the community, learn and practice new skills, and form relationships with each other and our neighbors.
If you are interested in participating, please review the Construction Volunteer Guide for more information.
