Text Box: Welcome! Thank You for Worshiping With Us Today!
Welcome to The First Congregational Church of Southington. Ours is an Open & Affirming congregation dating from 1724 & worshiping in our present Meetinghouse since 1830. One of the larger, more vibrant United Church of Christ churches in New England, our church’s purpose is to love & worship God; extend God’s radically-inclusive love to all people everywhere; make more & better disciples of Jesus Christ; & inspire people & society to become more & more just, loving, compassionate & Christ-like. You will find our church to be an accepting, caring, non-judgmental community, where faith is renewed, lives are transformed, & power for positive living is received. It’s a church where the Spirit is alive & miracles happen! Welcome!

The Call to Worship

Leader:   The Word is made flesh, God is in our midst.  This is the good news we proclaim.

People:  In Jesus Christ, God calls us to a new community and gives a new vision of nations and races, lands and people joined together in love.

Leader:  Celebrate and renew that vision today as you sing and seek, receive and give.

People:  We come to offer ourselves and be refreshed for God’s work.

God of the faithful in every time, today you call us into your church to be one body in Jesus Christ.  You give us the gifts we need for your service and bless us with a community of believers who share your vision.  Grant us a renewed spirit of faithfulness and discipleship.  Bind us in one community with your people in all places, for the sake of the realm your Son came to bring.  Amen

Text Box: Top Ten Reasons Why You
Should Become a Stephen Minister

Reason #7 Stephen Ministers Learn to Listen

Most people think of listening as a simple, natural, and passive activity, but it is actually a powerful care-giving tool. Using Jesus as our model, Stephen Ministers learn the skill of active listening, which involves commitment, patience, and attention to body language. Stephen Ministers learn to listen for more than just words. They seek true understanding and empathy.

We are all called to care! New Stephen Ministry classes start January 17th.
Contact Cyndie Holden for more information.

Today’s  Scripture  Lesson

Isaiah 60:1-6  1Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.  2For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you.  3Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.  4Lift up your eyes and look around; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from far away, and your daughters shall be carried on their nurses’ arms.

5Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and rejoice, because the abundance of the sea shall be brought to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you.  6A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come.  They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the LORD.

And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, 7and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, 8and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, 9and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, 10and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, 11and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
